Nipah virus (NiV) was basically identified in April 1999. At that time it caused outbreak of neurological and respiratory disease on pig farms which is located in peninsular Malaysia. There were 105 human and one million pigs died. The name “Nipah” is basically refers to place, Kampung Baru Sungai Nipah located in Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan. This place is the first source of Nipah Virus in human case.

Nipah Virus (NiV) infection in humans has a limit of clinical presentations to acute respiratory syndrome and fatal encephalitis. NiV is also the cause of disease in pigs and other animals. The incubation period ranges between 4 and 14 days from contracting the disease to the onset of the symptoms of Nipah virus. Some time incubation period could be of 45 days.
