What is ulcer
Soreness of the mouth that causes too much pain is called as a mouth ulcer. It is a white and grayish pit with red halos and appears shallow causing soreness and burning pain. Mouth ulcers are also called as Canker Sores. These ulcers usually appear on the tongue, lips, inside the cheeks, even inside the bottom lip and on the gums. When the ulcer is about to occur you feel burning and tingling sensation in the mouth. They are not ulcer contagious but always tend to recur. These ulcers may occur one at a time or in clusters. Mouth ulcers generally last for about one week or ten days.
Various medicines (including mouth ulcer gels) are easily available in the market. However, an individual can also try various home remedies to treat mouth ulcers. Mouth ulcers can be treated at home.
Natural for Remedies Mouth Ulcers
Coconut milk is a good medicine for ulcers. Extract milk by grating fresh coconut. Now gargle with this coconut milk for about three to four times a day.
Turmeric can also be used to heal mouth ulcers. In order to treat mouth ulcers, you can gargle with turmeric water. To make turmeric water, add a pinch of turmeric in adequate amount of water. Turmeric milk before going to bed in night can also be consumed to treat mouth ulcers.
Eating raw tomatoes may help in curing mouth ulcers. In case is not possible for an individual to eat tomatoes in raw form, tomato juice can also be consumed to get relief from mouth ulcers.
Triphala is an Ayurvedic herbal powder consisting of three Indian fruits – Bibhitaki and Haritaki. “Mix 1/2 teaspoon of Triphala with 1 cup of water to make a decoction. Gargle with it once a day. Hold it in your mouth for 1 to 2 minutes and then spit it out,” advices Ayurveda Expert, Dr. Meenakshi Sharma.
Consumption of onion in the form of salad can also be considered as a home remedy for the treatment of mouth ulcers. Onion may also be used as an ingredient in the preparation of various food items. Consumption of such food items can also provide relief from the problem of mouth ulcers.
Tulsi leaves are known to be very therapeutic. Chew some fresh leaves and drink water to swallow them. They might be a bit bitter but it really works. Similarly, you can even boil some enugreek leaves and use the water to gargle two-three times in a day.
Powdered form offenugreek seeds mixed with water can be consumed on a daily basis to treat mouth ulcers. Similarly, consumption of fenugreek leaves boiled with green gram and onions can also help in the treatment of mouth ulcers.
Mouth ulcers can also be cured by chewing basil leaves with water (two to three times in a day). In case, it is not possible to chew basil leaves, an individual can apply a paste of basil leaves on the ulcers.
Sometimes, mouth ulcers can also become a cause of bad breath. Use of basil leaves as a remedy can help in reducing the effect (pain and bad breath) of mouth ulcers.
Direct application of glycerin on mouth ulcers can help in curing mouth ulcers. It is important to note that an individual suffering from the problem of mouth ulcers must avoid/reduce consumption of oily food, dairy products, coffee, alcohol, etc
One of the causes of mouth ulcers can be lack of vitamin-c deficiency. Consumption of orange juice can help in providing instant relief to an individual suffering from mouth ulcers.
