Home Remedies For Roundworms

Roundworms are a common cause of infection especially in the children. This kind of parasitic infection is mainly seen in parts of tropical and sub-tropical regions. Unfortunately, there are no typical symptoms to display the infestation of the parasites in the body.

However, abdominal pain and slow weight gain are some of the symptoms that are normally seen in children who have roundworms. In extreme cases the roundworms are also responsible for blocking of the intestines.

Roundworms need to be treated since they can cause a child to lose weight dramatically. There are some easy and effective ways of getting rid of the parasitic infection at home. These home remedies should be followed religiously until the roundworms are completely gone.

Home Remedies for Roundworms

Papaya: Papaya seeds are very useful in treating and eliminating intestinal worms. Caricin which is effective in eliminating roundworms is present in ample quantity in papaya seeds. Powder the seeds and add one teaspoon of this powder in a cup of milk or water and drink on empty stomach in the morning, daily. Papaya leaves are also useful for treating intestinal worms. Make an infusion by taking 15grams of dry leaves and add about 250ml of boiling water to it. Add honey to it before drinking.

Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is considered one of the most effective ways of getting rid of all parasitic infections. In fact, even the flesh of coconut fruit is considered very powerful for eliminating roundworms.

Cook all your food in coconut oil. You can also drink a concoction of three tablespoons of warm milk mixed with one teaspoon of coconut oil. Drinking three glasses of coconut water every day will also help remove the roundworms from the body.

It is also recommended that two tablespoons of fresh grated coconut should be had each morning for breakfast. Treatment with coconut should be done for at least 10 days to ensure the worms have left the body and there is no risk of re-infestation.


Garlic has been known for its anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties since ancient times. However, it is also a potent remedy against parasitic infestations like roundworms.

To get rid of roundworms, use lots of garlic in your every day cooking. In fact, raw garlic is more powerful in treating roundworms than cooked garlic. Eat at least three pods of garlic once in the morning and once at night.

Do this for at least a week to see the results. For those who do not like the taste or smell of garlic, simply crush the garlic and spread it over a piece of bread and eat!

Carom Seeds

Carom seeds can be used to treat intestinal worms. The thymol content in carom seeds has the ability to inhibit the growth of undesired parasites in the intestine. According to Ayurveda, carom seeds and jaggery should be used together for the treatment of intestinal worms.


Carrots are very helpful in treating manyparasitic infections in children including threadworms and roundworms. And kids love the taste of carrots! So give your child two raw carrots every day to munch on.

Do not give any other food along with carrots as this will help the body absorb the anti-oxidant properties of carrots faster.


The root and the stems of pomegranate have anthelmintic properties that are helpful in the removal of roundworm parasites. However, many people prefer to use the bark of the tree for treating roundworms because it tastes better and has more of alkaloid punicine than the root. The alkaloid is considered poison for the roundworms.

Boil a long piece of the bark in 500ml of water for 20-30 minutes. The quantity of water should be reduced to half. Now strain the decoction and allow it to cool.

Around 30ml of the decoction should be given to children three times in a day. Triple the quantity for adults. The treatment should be carried out for a week to get rid of the roundworms completely.

Belleric myroblan

Belleric myroblan , mixed with seeds of butea is a very effective in removing all intestinal parasites.It should be taken in doses of one teaspoon thrice a day.
