Home Remedies For Earwax Remove

Earwax, medically known as cerumen, is a natural substance produced by glands in the ear canal that has protective, lubricating and antibacterial properties. The main work of the wax is to protect the ears from bacteria and other external agents.

Most of the time, there is a slow and orderly migration process inside the ear canal in which earwax and skin cells are transported from the eardrum to the ear opening, where it can be easily removed.

The outer part of the ear secretes a substance which is known as ear wax. This wax is responsible for keeping the ear lubricated. It also helps to get rid of dirt and dust from the ear.

It prevents this dirt from reaching the inner parts of the ear. It is also known as cerumen and is yellowish in colour. Ear wax normally does not cause any problems in the ear. However, if it is allowed to accumulate, it is capable of causing infections.

It can also hinder the hearing of the person and cause pain. In such cases, one must try to remove the build-up of wax from the ear. However, it is important to be very gentle while doing so in order to prevent damage to your ear. There are several simple home remedies which can help you tackle this problem in a safe way.

Best Home Remedies For Earwax Removal

Hydrogen Peroxide

Hydrogen peroxide is very effective in dealing with excessive amounts of wax in the ear. However, it must be used with caution as it is quite harsh in its action on the ear.

This chemical is exceptionally beneficial in those situations where there are hardened lumps of wax in the ear. Hydrogen peroxide is able to melt these deposits. After that, the melted deposits can be removed with the help of ear buds. You must not use this remedy very often as it can damage the delicate skin which is present in the ear.

Baby Oil

Baby oil is very gentle on the ear. This remedy is beneficial in those cases where the affected ear is inflamed or infected. In such cases, the area is extremely sensitive and harsh chemicals cannot be used for treating the problem.

Take a few drops of baby oil and put them in your ear with the help of a dropper. Allow this oil to remain in your ear for a few hours after which you can clean your ear with ear buds or a soft cloth. The deposits of wax would have melted due to the oil and you can gently remove them.

Symptoms Of Inner Ear Infection

Use warm water

After a day or two, when the wax is softened, use a rubber-bulb syringe to gently squirt warm water into your ear canal. Tilt your head and pull your outer ear up and back to straighten your ear canal. When finished irrigating, tip your head to the side to let the water drain out.

Olive Oil

If you do not have baby oil at hand, you can make use of olive oil which is also very effective in dealing with the problem of ear wax. This oil is known to be a very good natural moisturizer.

This makes it very beneficial in dealing with dryness which occurs inside the ear. Place a few drops of this oil in your ear with the help of a dropper. It will melt away the wax deposits and moisturize the skin in the ear as well.

Saline Solution

Mix 1 teaspoon of salt in around ½ cup of warm water until it dissolves completely. Now, soak a cotton ball in the solution and squeeze few drops of it into the ear by slightly tilting your head upwards. Be in this position for some time so that the salty water properly gets inside the ear. Now, tilt your head in the opposite direction in order to drain out the solution from the ear. This is the best ear wax removal solution to get rid of the problem at home.

Mild Soap

Mild soap must only be used to cleanse the outer part of the ear. The ideal way to use this remedy is to prepare a solution using some mild soap. Take a soft cotton cloth and allow a portion of it to soak in this solution.

After you have done that, you can use this soapy cloth to wipe the outer part of your ear. The soapy solution helps to break away the stubborn deposits of wax from the ear.
