Effective Stiff Neck Remedies
Neck exercises provide relief in stiffness in the neck. It also improves flexibility of the cervical muscles and it prevents neck pain. Neck exercises should be done gently and slowly and without any jerks.
Stand with your feet 12 inches apart. Do slow neck rotations clockwise and anti clockwise, 3 times on each side to cure stiff neck. In case you feel giddy then you should do half rotations.
Front and Back Neck Tilt
Sit down in a cross legged position; you can sit on a chair also with your back straight. Tilt your head as far back as you can while keeping your mouth closed.
Stay for a few seconds. Bend your head forward with your chin as close to your chest as possible. Hold the pose for a few seconds. Do 3-5 repetitions of this exercise for a stiff neck.
Neck Turning from Side to Side
Keep your neck and spine in a straight line. Turn your head towards right, without straining the muscles, hold for a few seconds. Slowly turn the head to your left and hold the position for a few seconds. Repeat the exercise 3-5 times.
Neck Resistant Exercise
Place your hands behind your head and try to push the head backwards while resisting it with your hands. Hold to the count of 5 and repeat 3-5 times. Both the movements should be done simultaneously.
Similarly do neck resistance exercise from front to back. Place your hands on your forehead and push the head forward.
Neck massaging helps to give relief from stiff neck.Grasp your neck with your thumb on one side and your fingers on the other Knead your neck by gently squeezing for 2 minutes.
Change your Pillow
Your sleeping posture has much to do with stiffness in the neck. You should not use a high and hard pillow. Use a semi soft and flat pillow. Your pillow should be placed above your shoulders and at the base of the neck.
