Common Sing And Symptoms Of Psoriasis

The Signs and Symptoms of Psoriasis

Psoriasis is a condition which affects the skin of the human body. In many cases, the skin of the patient becomes red and patchy. This happens due to a disruption in the functioning of the human immune system.

The immune system sends out signals which cause the rapid growth and destruction of skin cells. The white blood cells which are present in the body attack the skin cells and cause a skin disorder called psoriasis. There are various kinds of psoriasis. In some people, the skin becomes full of red patches which are flat.

However, in other kinds of psoriasis, several tiny eruptions are formed on the skin. These eruptions are filled with pus and are extremely painful as well.

Psoriasis is a very painful condition and requires strong medication which can treat it. It is important to be vigilant if you notice any of the symptoms of this condition.

Common Symptoms Of Psoriasis

Guttate psoriasis

This primarily affects young adults and children. It’s usually triggered by a bacterial infection such as strep throat. It’s marked by small, water-drop-shaped sores on your trunk, arms, legs and scalp. The sores are covered by a fine scale and aren’t as thick as typical plaques are. You may have a single outbreak that goes away on its own, or you may have repeated episodes.

Itchy Patches on the Skin

This symptom is one of the characteristic features of plaque psoriasis. These patches are commonly referred to as plaque. A person who is suffering from psoriasis has several tiny patches on the skin. These patches are often raised and scaly. In some cases, they are also filled with pus. This makes them very painful and itchy.

When these patches rub against any rough surface, they bleed and cause severe burning too. This makes it very difficult for the affected person to lead a normal life. Such people often have to cover their skin properly in order to avoid bleeding and pain.

Pain While Moving

This happens when a person suffers from severe psoriasis. Very often, a major part of the human body is affected with this condition. The skin in such areas is very tender and sensitive. This can restrict the movement of the affected person to a great extent. In many cases, these scaly patches appear on the soles of the feet too.

Thus, the patient is unable to walk without excruciating pain. If you notice the rapid spread of such patches throughout your body, consult a doctor regarding the possibility of psoriasis

Scalp psoriasis

Psoriasis on the scalp appears as red, itchy areas with silvery-white scales. The red or scaly areas often extend beyond the hairline. You may notice flakes of dead skin in your hair or on your shoulders, especially after scratching your scalp

Patches On the Nails and Scalp

This is one of the distinguishing symptoms of inverse psoriasis. The nails and scalp are also affected by this condition. The nails become discoloured and brittle. The area around the nails also becomes itchy and sensitive. Several red patches also appear on the scalp of the affected person.

This can also give rise to the problem of hair loss. The skin on these patches keeps falling off in the form of tiny flakes. This causes embarrassment to the person as well. It becomes very difficult to comb your hair if you suffer from this condition. This is because the affected area becomes very sensitive even to the slightest touch.

Joint Pain

This is a common symptom in many types of psoriasis. People who suffer from psoriasis often experience severe pain in their joints. This often happens when the skin around the joints becomes covered with patches of psoriasis.

This pain limits the movement of the person to a great extent as well. As the patches disappear after treatment, the symptom of pain gradually disappears too.
