Baking Soda

As told above, lack of exfoliation too leads to itchy scalp by building up dead cells and skin flakes etc. Baking soda is a known exfoliating agent that excellently cleans your skin, of your scalp too. Additionally, the alkaline nature helps balance the pH level of your scalp to relieve you of itchiness.

Remedies Using Natural Oils

Use of oils affects the quality of hair. It is very important to use correct oil and in correct combination to get rid of itchy scalp.

Mix equal quantities of Lavender Oil, Eucalyptus Oil, Avocado Oil and German Chamomile Oil. In case you are suffering from extreme itching, apply this mixture directly on the affected areas. Otherwise, mix one part of the oil mixture with four parts of water and spray directly on the scalp. You may also add this mixture to your shampoo and conditioner. These oils provide excellent soothing effect when you mix them together.

Neem Oil works excellent if itching is caused due to problems like dandruffor psoriasis or eczema. Mix equal quantities of neem oil, tea tree oil and rosemary oil. Application of this mixture regularly directly on scalp gives effective results.

Tea Tree Oil has anti-bacterial properties which work best with itchy scalp. You may mix 2-3 drops of tea tree oil with 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil and massage on scalp. Alternatively, mix few drops of oil with water and spray on scalp. Another effective way to use tea tree oil is to mix a few drops of oil with your regular shampoo.

Sesame Seed Oil also helps to provide relief from itchiness. Warm sesame oil and massage your scalp. Wrap a hot towel on your head and leave for 10 minutes. Repeat this every day before sleeping and shampoo your scalp and hair next morning.

Peppermint Oil provides relief form itchy scalp if it caused due to dryness. Mix two drops of peppermint oil with one cup of water. Massage your scalp for a few minutes.

If itchy scalp is due to dandruff, make a mixture of Olive Oil, Almond Oil and Coconut Oil. Warm the mixture and massage your scalp for fast relief.

Chamomile Tea

Take three bags of chamomile tea and chop three sprigs of rosemary. Boil them together. Then let it cool and strain it. Use this solution to rinse your hair to cure itchy scalp.

You may also apply chamomile oil directly or a mixture of chamomile oil and rosemary leavesĀ on the scalp to get relieved from itchy scalp.

Lemon Juice

Lemon juice is very effective in curing itchy scalp caused due to dryness or dandruff. Apply fresh lemon juice directly on scalp and rinse after few minutes.

You may also use lemon juice by diluting it in water. Alternatively, mix lemon juice with curd and apply on the scalp.

Juniper Berry

Juniper berry is an anti-inflammatory. Crush half cup juniper berry. Add this to two cups of boiling water. Let the mixture cool and apply on the affected areas. Leave for 10 minutes and then rinse off. This helps to relieve inflammation.


Crush rosemary leaves. Make a mixture of crushed rosemary leaves and olive oil. Apply on scalp and leave it for 10 to 15 minutes. Alternatively, rosemary oil can be applied directly on scalp to relieve itchiness.


Oatmeal has soothing effects which helps to cure itchiness. Soak oatmeal in water for 20 minutes. Then strain it. Make a mixture by adding 5 drops of rosemary oil and 5 drops of lavender oil. Apply the mixture on scalp. Leave for 10-15 minutes and rinse off.


Banana is helpful to cure itchiness caused due to dryness. Make a paste by mixing one avocado and two bananas. Apply on hair and scalp. Leave for half an hour and rinse off. This helps to condition the scalp.


Soak 25grams Indian Gooseberry in 1 litre of water overnight. In the morning, boil the mixture and reduce it to half. Blend it with 25grams yogurt. Apply this mixture on scalp and leave for an hour. Rinse with warm water. bon a weekly basis gives helpful results.

Bay Leaves

Pour boiling water over crushed bay leaves in a bowl. Cover the bowl with a plate for twenty minutes. Then strain out the leaves and allow the liquid to cool. Apply the liquid on scalp and leave for an hour. Then wash off with cold water. This helps to cure itchiness and dandruff.
