You can use a traditional ice pack and place it on the affected area for about 15 minutes. If you do not have ice packs handy, take a few ice cubes and wrap them in a washcloth and apply it on the welts. You may use a bag of frozen vegetables as well! Please note that you should not directly apply ice cubes on the outbreaks as it may damage your skin.
Besides cold compresses, try to keep yourself in a cool environment as much as possible. Cold baths or showers may help as well.
You can drink nettle tea to deal with the problem of hives. In case it is not possible to drink raw nettle tea, you can add honey or lemon to enhance the taste. Drinking licorice and chamomile tea can also help in reducing the pain and itching from hives.Intake of a tea prepared with burdock seeds, leaves and roots can also provide the desired results. It is important to consume any herbal tea 3 to 4 times in a day to obtain best results.
You can apply a cold compress prepared by soaking a paper towel in cold water on the affected area to reduce the swelling resulting from hives. Paper towel should be removed only after 20 – 25 minutes. This remedy can be used after every 4 – 5 hours to obtain quick results.
You can eat parsley in raw form (3 teaspoons) or drink parsley juice to treat the problem of hives. Parsley juice can be mixed with carrot juice to enhance the taste.
You can boil crushed amaranth seeds (2 teaspoons) in water (3 cups) for a period of 15 – 20 minutes and place a cotton cloth soaked in this water on the affected area to treat the symptoms of hives.
Aloe Vera gel is extremely versatile in treating a wide variety of skin ailments. It can also help soothe the itching sensation that accompanies a hives outbreak. It also has natural anti-bacterial properties; hence it will also protect the affected area from secondary infections.
For best results get an aloe leaf and chop off the rinds. Take the leaf apart and apply the natural aloe gel directly on the affected area. Let your skin soak the aloe naturally. Apply it as many times as you want during the course of the day. If you cannot get hold of an aloe leaf, visit your local pharmacy and procure a bottle of organic aloe gel.
Oatmeal bath can also provide relief from the itching and pain resulting from hives. This remedy can be easily prepared by adding a pack of oatmeal to the bathing water (warm). Oatmeal soaked in warm water can also be applied on the affected area to treat hives.
You can also apply lavender or sandalwood oil directly on the affected area to treat the problem of hives. Intake of lemon oil (2 – 3 drops) mixed in water (1 cup) can also help in the treatment of various symptoms of hives.
Rose Water with Vinegar
You can mix rose water and vinegar and apply this mixture on the affected area to cure the problem of hives. This remedy may provide immediate relief from the itching.
