Conjunctivitis refers to redness and inflammation of the outer eye covering the white part. It is commonly known as Pink Eye and is characterised by swelling, pain and redness of the surface of the eye.

Rose Water

Rose water soothes eyes. You should wash your face with solution prepared with rose water several times a day.

Chamomile

Chamomile tea bag can be used as a cool compress. Put cool and moist chamomile tea bag on the eyes for ten minutes.

This helps to relief the redness of eyes. You can do this several times in a day. Chamomile flower tea can also be used to wash the eyes.

Honey

Honey is used as a home remedy for conjunctivitis because of its soothing properties. Few drops of honey can be directly placed on the eyes. Alternatively, honey can be used with boiling water or milk. Mix 2-3 tablespoons of honey with 2 cups of boiling water. Let the mixture cool and then use it to wash the eyes.

Mix milk and honey in equal quantities. Put a few drops of this mixture in your eyes using an eye drop. You may also use this as a compress. Soak a cloth or cotton pad in this mixture and put it on your eyes.

Potatoes

Take a slice of raw potato and put on your eyes. Potatoes work as natural astringent. Put potato slices on three consecutive nights. This will help to get faster relief from conjunctivitis.

Ice pack

Soak a cloth in cold water and put it on eyes. Repeat this a few times by changing cloth and water. It helps in reducing the swelling and itchiness.

Saline Water

Boil water and let it become warm. Then add salt and dip some cotton balls in it and let the solution cool to room temperature. Put the cotton balls on eyes for 5 minutes. This remedy is very helpful as salt water kills bacteria.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Make a solution by mixing 1 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar with one cup of warm milk. Use this to wash your eyes.

Coffee

Boil water and put some coffee powder in it. Let the solution cool. Apply it on your eyes using an eye drop. Rinse after a few minutes.

Coriander

Dry some coriander and boil it in water. Strain it and use the liquid to wash the infected eye. You can even soak cotton ball in the liquid and use a compress. This helps to relieve burning sensation and pain.

Marigold Leaves

Leaves of marigold plant provide coolness. Put some leaves of marigold plant in water. Use this infusion as eyewash for faster relief.

Aloe Vera

Mix aloe vera juice with water. Soak a cloth in this solution and apply over eyes. It helps to relieve pain in the eyes.

Yogurt

Applying poultice yogurt helps to cure conjunctivitis.

Lemon Juice

Mix a few drops of lemon juice with warm water. Apply it on the eyes using cotton or paper towel.

Alternatively, you can also directly apply lemon juice outside the affected area using clean finger. This helps to relieve from pain within 1-2 days.

Turmeric

Make a solution by mixing 2 teaspoon turmeric with1 cup boiled water. Use this as a hot compress with a cloth or cotton ball.
